Why the film changed its name

For most of the years I spent making it, this film was called Cure This.

That title came from anger, and I don't apologise for it. When you have watched someone you love go through what my mother went through, anger is a reasonable response, and it is a useful engine for a long project. Cure This is what I would have said to almost anyone who asked me, in about 2010, what I was doing.

But a title is a promise about what a film is for. And somewhere in the last few years, the promise changed.

The film stopped being an argument I wanted to win and became something I wanted to hand to a specific person: someone sitting in a car park outside a hospital, holding a diagnosis they got twenty minutes ago, with a phone in their hand and no idea what to search for.

Save Your Life is addressed to that person. It's the more honest title, because it says who the film is for rather than who it's against.
